Jerri
Holan & Associates, AIA, is a nationally-recognized architectural firm with an
old-fashioned mission: to create buildings connected to their context
and to express these connections gracefully. The firm emphasizes buildings
that resonate with tradition, celebrate building crafts, and create a
bridge to today’s lifestyles. The company has received awards from the National Trust, the California Preservation Foundation, the Art Deco Society of California, the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association, and the Oakland Heritage Alliance while many of the firm’s projects have appeared in international publications.
Design specialties include custom home and residential remodels; restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings; small-scale
commercial construction and tenant improvements; religious structures; and educational and cultural
buildings such as theaters, art galleries, dance spaces, studios, and
classrooms. A portion of the firm’s services are dedicated to public
interest and non-profit groups and the firm promotes sustainable building practices and encourages the use of 'green' building materials.
Client involvement is an important component of the
firm’s architecture. This approach matches the client’s
needs with an appropriate aesthetic language – sensitive attention
to detail is a trademark of the firm’s work. Careful programming,
thoughtful planning, and economic considerations are addressed early in
design phases. The results are high-quality, affordable projects based
on a user-oriented approach to the design process.
The
firm was established in 1992 and the principal, Jerri Holan,
has over 20 years of design experience in the San Francisco Bay area.
Ms. Holan has worked with a number of firms in the Bay Area, most notably
Christopher Alexander’s Center for Environmental Design; Christopherson

& Construction; Kirk Peterson & Associates, Architects; and Lerner
+ Associates, Architects.

The firm is listed with the State of California as an official historical resource consultant. Many of the firm’s projects involve compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and are subject to review by the California Office of Historic Preservation, the National & California Park Services, local historic review boards, and other agencies.
