Lukesh Sunroom Addition, Berkeley, California
The porch of this small Craftsman bungalow was replaced with a
sunroom to capture some additional square footage on a tight urban
lot. A new cased opening between the dining room and the sunroom
does much to make the tiny dining room feel larger. Custom windows
in the sunroom match the wood trim pattern on the front of the house.
A wooden beam ceiling was incorporated for its informal character,
complete with hanging Arts & Crafts pendant lights. Originally
specified as tile, a smooth concrete floor is easy to maintain and
functions much like an old-fashioned mudroom.
A few years later, the “1960” Kitchen was remodeled and opened up to the Dining Room. Natural oak cabinets were replaced with custom painted cabinets more in keeping with the period of the house. Arts & Crafts lighting fixtures and a soapstone countertop complete the ambience.
