The owners of this 1905 Craftsmen home wanted modern conveniences
with a more traditional look for their Master Bath. Plumbing fixtures
were replaced with historically-inspired fixtures and the bathtub
wall, which blocked most of the room’s light, was replaced
with a ½-height wall. To lighten the room, 6"x6"
cream-colored marble field tile on the floor and walls was used.
The wall tile features handcut, custom marble trim pieces in two
different geometric patterns to recall the Arts & Crafts period.
Marble slabs at the tub deck and sink counter complement the trim
pieces. A custom sink cabinet of oak, a mirror, and hardware were
also designed to reflect the Arts & Crafts style of the original
house. To finish the period look, Craftsman-style light fixtures
were installed and augmented with a wall washer light which highlights
the precise tilework at the tub area.
