Helser Kitchen Remodel, Berkeley, California
This kitchen remodel was part of a larger project which added
to a 1920's Craftsman bungalow. The original kitchen was separated
from the backyard by a laundry room and a bedroom door opened directly
into the kitchen. The laundry wall was removed and laundry activities
were moved upstairs. By incorporating this room into the kitchen,
a real dining area was gained and large windows and a french door
were incorporated, inviting garden views and access. The bedroom
door was relocated to face the dining area and was screened for
privacy with oak posts that matched new stairs. The door relocation
created more wall space for a large cooking area. An archway replaced
the door to the living room, opening up the kitchen toward the front
of the home. Cabinets, pulls, and light fixtures were all selected
for their Craftsman styling.
