Nottoli Kitchen, Kensington, California
This 1930's hillside home had great views but the outdated kitchen
only overlooked the sideyard. By adding a new kitchen to the southern,
rear side of the house, 180° views were gained and the kitchen
could relate better to the other rooms of the home. [The old kitchen
was transformed into a guest room and bath.] The wall between the
new kitchen and dining room was replaced with a high counter and
the wall between the dining room and living room was also removed
so that all three areas became one large family-type room, much
better suited to the owner’s casual lifestyle. A french door
leads directly from the kitchen to a large deck and the kitchen
is finished with a breakfast nook overlooking the grand views. Custom
built-in cabinets in the dining room added storage while maple cabinets
were selected in the kitchen. A terra cotta tile counter augments
the 1930's ambience while warm Arts & Crafts light fixtures
were selected for their color.
