Snyder Kitchen, Oakland, California
This 1930's home had good bones but an outdated kitchen that was
not in keeping with the Tudor-style of the original home. Architecturally,
walls were removed between the foyer and breakfast nook and between
the kitchen and dining room. All these openings were designed to
match the original arched opening between the living and dining
areas. The breakfast nook was outfitted with a custom-leaded feature
window to match a similar window in the living area.
Granite countertops are featured in the kitchen. Custom tiles
were crafted from the leftover counter granite and inset into the
floor for an integrated look that reflects the old world charm of
the original residence. 45° countertops offset one another,
the microwave in one corner and the refrigerator opposite. Custom
cabinets were painted for a traditional look with glass and pewter
pulls to match the granite and leaded glass upper cabinets. Sparkling
Murano glass light fixtures in the kitchen complement the pewter
fixture in the breakfast nook.
