Wong Kitchen, Berkeley, California
This modern hillside home featured 11' high ceilings, tall glass
doors and clerestories to the west, and a kitchen that had no relation
to the rest of the home. The most important part of the remodel
was removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. This
opened up the small kitchen to the larger room, similar to the way
the dining area opened up to the living area. The wall was replaced
with a breakfast counter and blue pendant lights selected to match
the trim tile on the new counter. 12" x 12" white ceramic
tiles give the new kitchen counters a seamless look. They contrast
with the traditional hand-painted, blue trim tile. Cherry cabinets
feature long brushed silver pulls, matching brushed silver appliances,
and large cubic ceiling lights complete the contemporary ensemble.
