Silvani Home Office, Oakland, California
A downstairs basement area in a 1940's home was transformed into
a home office. At the same time, the foyer area was refinished and
a small shower room replaced a closet tucked under the main stairs.
In the basement, all the wood siding was replaced with drywall,
a new scored concrete floor was installed and recessed task lighting
added. A closet, maple bookshelves, and a direct-vent fireplace
give the space its warmth. In the foyer, new tile flooring and a
new contemporary light fixture brighten the room. French doors leading
to the office and shower feature custom art glass, similar to the
sidelights of the front entry door. In the shower, tile flooring
was added. A “flush up” toilet was used to drain the
toilet, shower, and sink for sizeable cost savings.
