State Theater
Woodland, California
The State Theater in Woodland, California, was built in 1936 by Redwood Theatres and Fox West Coast Theatres to replace a theater that was destroyed by fire. The Art Deco Theater was renowned for its state-of-the-art theater experience and a grand auditorium with its raised, stadium seating. In 1977, two additional screens were built adjacent to the original theater. Due to competing downtown developments, the State Theater lost its popularity and was closed on September 6, 2010.
Jerri Holan & Associates was retained by the City of Woodland to prepare feasibility studies, cost analyses, and project alternatives for the historic structure. Ultimately it was purchased and remodeled by new operators, Cinema West, and reopened as a 10-screen theatre on June 28, 2017.
